Clarendon Medical - Social Media Policy

1. Purpose

Clarendon Medical does not currently maintain any public-facing social media accounts aside from limited professional use of LinkedIn by the Medical Director and Practice Director. This policy provides guidance for staff, contractors, and practitioners regarding appropriate conduct related to social media use, particularly in connection to the practice, its patients, and its reputation.

2. Scope

  • This policy applies to all:
    Employees (clinical and administrative)
  • General practitioners and contractors
  • Students, locums, and visiting clinicians
  • Any individual engaged by Clarendon Medical in a professional capacity

3. Policy Statement

  • Clarendon Medical does not operate any official social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok).
  • Limited use of LinkedIn is permitted for professional engagement by the Medical Director and Practice Director only.
  • Any posts made on LinkedIn must reflect the values of the practice, maintain confidentiality, and comply with AHPRA and RACGP standards.
  • No other staff member is authorised to create, manage, or represent Clarendon Medical on social media without written approval from the Practice Director.

4. Staff Personal Use of Social Media

Staff may use personal social media in a private capacity but must:

  • Never disclose any patient information, even if de-identified
  • Not discuss internal operations, workplace issues, or colleagues
  • Avoid commenting on clinical decisions or associating the practice with personal opinions
  • Not use the practice’s name, logo, or address in a way that implies endorsement or affiliation

5. Breach of Policy

Any staff member found to be in breach of this policy may be subject to:

  • Performance management or disciplinary action
  • Termination of contract or engagement
  • Reporting to AHPRA (for registered health professionals)

6. Review and Approval

This policy will be reviewed every 12 months or sooner if:

  • The practice establishes or discontinues official social media use
  • There are changes in RACGP or AHPRA guidance
  • A relevant incident involving media, privacy, or public communication occurs
